There’s a pattern in the hall of faith that’s both humbling and inspiring. In Hebrews 11:20-22, three patriarchs – Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph – blessed future generations from their deathbeds. None of them saw the Promised Land. None of them experienced the full weight of God’s covenant promises. Yet they spoke with certainty about things centuries away. Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. Jacob worshiped as he leaned on his staff, blessing each of Joseph’s sons. And Joseph gave instructions about his bones, he wanted to be carried out of Egypt when God finally moved His people. This is faith that outlasts us. It doesn’t need to see the ending to trust the One who holds it. It blesses future generations because it’s anchored in a God who is faithful beyond our lifetime.
