“I had this obsessions desires and thoughts wanting to control them, to ah…. possess them permanently, not because I was hungry with them, or because I hated them because I wanted to keep them with me… as my obsession grew, I would save some of their body parts. It is a process it doesn’t happen overnight when you dehumanize another person and start viewing them as an object of pleasure than a living, breathing human being” These are words from one of the worlds most feared Serial Killer Jeffrey Dahmer. His first victim was an 18year old boy who he picked as he was hitchhiking. No one knew about this murder for a decade when Jeffery Dahmer was apprehended for brutally killing 17 men, and even sometimes eating their flesh. He confessed that the ten years gap of no murder was simply because there wasn’t an opportunity for him to express his desires fully.
In this interview he sites the main fuel for his sexual abusing, torturing and murdering the men was alcohol X-rated films and horror movies. He said “I would go to a gay bar, get a few drinks, offer a man some money, go with him at my place drug them to sleep. I would watch the film Exorcist, which would get me in the mood for killing, the tape made me feel evil and perverted. I started having these thoughts and desires when I was 15 or 17; they were sexual fantasies of dominance and complete control” He let loose to these desires and thought by fueling them, and so materializing them.
Days before Ted Bundy was executed for abduction, sexual abuse and murder of 30 women in months he accepted DR. James Dobson of the Focus on the Family show to interview him. Dr James asked, “Do you feel that the hardcore pornography and the doorway to it is softcore pornography is doing untold damage to other people and causing other women to be abused and killed the way you did?”
“I am not a social scientist, nor have I done any survey and I won’t pretend that I know, but I have been in prison for a long time now, and I know a lot of men who were motivated to be violent just like me, and without exception, every one of them was deeply involved with pornography without question…” He replayed tears running down his cheeks.
I chose these two men for one was a homosexual and abused and killed men (Jeffery Dahmer), and the other was heterosexual and abused and murdered women. Both of these men had a normal upbringing like you and I. None of them was abused by their parents, they are very intelligent and led normal lives. They were like you and me, but deep down, they allowed themselves to be consumed whole with their desires.
They not only gave ears and thoughts to those evil desires they fueled them with watch explicit materials. They pursued and looked for opportunities to satisfy their desires like an ox on heat they would jump mercilessly on a potential victim. Giving in, indulging in and pursuing their passions was the beginning of their downward spiral. Each person (this is inclusive of you) is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is fully grown, brings forth death (James 1: 14-15).
All that is within you is so much evil that you cannot understand it (Jeremiah 17:9). It is evil continually (Genesis 6:5), and all it seeks out is an opportunity be feed, and it will grow to conceive sin. So do not think That Ted and Jeffery were so evil than you. You are just as they were. Maybe even now you are entertaining that evil thought of sleeping with someone or even killing them. It all starts with what you feed. Are you busy feeding your evil desire? Ted and Jeff confessed that they feed on porn and drugs (Alcohol). Let it be clear that all of us have evil in us. If we fuel them, they’ll set us to a certain course. It is not what you eat that makes you evil it is what comes out of you that makes you evil (Matthew 15:11).
What are you watching, what are you reading, what conversations are you having? Make no mistake the brain has two main entries, the ears and the eyes and two main exists the mouth and the hands. I know what you’ve been feeding by what you say and how you act. Are ingesting movies that are filled with all manner of evil, are you subscribed to music and YouTube videos that a full of vulgar and skimmed in evil, are you reading erotic materials, are you watching the now-famous nyonga festival? That which you spend time and money to is what makes your inner you come out, that’s why Paul asks Christians to wear the helmet of salvation (Ephesians 6:19) and that our transformation (from evil to righteous) is by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:3).
There are two kinds of people in this world. The Unsaved Sinner and the Saved Sinner for we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). The Unsaved Sinner is the one who is still denying that he is sinful to the core and the only way out is to turn to Jesus for salvation. His actions might be good and even done in the name of Christ, Jesus himself but still believes that he doesn’t need Jesus for his sins to be forgiven (Matt 7:21).
The Saved sinner, on the other hand, is one who has accepted of the fact that nothing to this world he brings than simply to the cross he clings for the forgiveness of his sins. They do have evil desires, but they do not entertain them. They do not feed them but counter feed themselves with the salvation of their souls by the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17). They’ve offered to sacrifice their evil desires that is their bodies are buried with Christ so that they may die with him and resurrect afresh with him in glory (Romans 6:1-4). These are men and women who have made up their mind to bit up their bodies to submission. They have refused to be controlled by their devilish desires. For they know in entertaining them they path will lead to destruction (Matthew 7:13).
You my friend, which of these two people are you? You have a choice to make. Either to continue in your evil ways or turn to Christ in repentance and let him be the Lord of your life. Sinful desires are the lords and masters of the Unsaved sinner. They control and consume them, but Jesus is the Lord of the Saved Sinner. The saved sinner has a hope you don’t have, the hope of victory over sin. You cannot win over your desires apart from Christ, indeed apart from Jesus; you cannot do anything (John 15:4).
