These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. –2 Peter 2:17
Have you ever wondered what you can do or how you can spend your time in darkness? Walking in darkness can be a real torment on its own. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and run to the bathroom without switching on the lights and its usually a dangerous affair, things get broken or I hurt my toes . In one of our youth weeks at church, we visited a place known as paradise lost which is a picnic site and has some attractions such as ancient caves and a lake. We entered one cave and went exploring deep inside, of course with the help of flashlights. We stopped at some point and Matt Elmore who is the KUZA director requested the lights to be turned off for a moment. People were shrouded with fear. The total darkness inside was so scary, even torturous. Matt Elmore went on to say that is just but a glimpse of hell. Utter darkness was prepared for the devil, the great deceiver and his angels, those instruments that he uses to turn men from the truth and therefore it has been reserved for them. That will be God’s dreadful wrath on Satan and sinful humanity.
I am not trying to scare anyone but what I am trying to put across here is that hell is real. It is not an illusion of grim reaper fantasies. The sad reality is that many will pass through the wide gate that leads to destruction. In this world today, many have fallen prey to the lies of the devil. The devil himself has blinded the minds of many and people end up exchanging the truth for a lie. The corrupt and lustful desires of the flesh has become more appealing than the word of God. People honor God with their lips but their hearts are far from him. They call “Lord, Lord,” but do not do what the Lord says. The unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, the idolaters and all liars will be consigned to thick darkness forever and ever. The severity of hell is so horrid and unbearable and it will be too late for those who are condemned to make a lifesaving decision once they land there. Just like the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31, you better believe and trust in Jesus right now when you have all the time and opportunity to do so. You have to do away with the world and its desires and focus on doing God’s will.
The good news is that you can avoid the wrath of God, the “blackest darkness.” Jesus Christ has delivered all who believe in him from the dominion of darkness into his Kingdom. In him we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins. All you have to do is to accept Jesus as your Lord and savior and to repent. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness. His love is so great and he is an awesome God who does not take pleasure in the death of anyone. He wants you to repent and live. God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. So, choose light today.
