For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age…(Titus 2:11-12)
A lesson we get here from grace is that we are to turn down ungodliness and worldly desires and pursue righteousness in the Holy Spirit. We are told to live godly lives. What is godly living? Godly living means living in the way that Christ wants us to live, devoting your life to God, having the mind of Christ and having the same desires that God has. Godly living means not giving the devil a foothold, and it means hating sin and living to please God. It is not as easy as it may sound because it demands a lot of sacrifices and of course, the world is very harsh and ruthless to those who lead godly lives, but the grace of God teaches us to say no to every form of ungodliness.
I remember some few years back when I was with a friend of mine who took me to their home to watch a movie. Once we were there, he played the film, and I immediately discovered that it was a pornographic movie. I stepped out of the house and told him that I couldn’t watch pornography. He tried to persuade me with some other guys, but I stood my ground and left their place. They scorned me, but the decision I made was the right choice. That was God’s grace right there that told me to say no to pornography.
Always strive to live a godly life in this world. All the effort you put in living a holy life is undoubtedly worth it at the end. Just remember the grace of God that enables you to overcome all obstacles in your way and also teaches you to say no to ungodliness.
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for your grace that teaches me to say no to ungodliness. Help me to live an upright and self-controlled life that honors you. Amen.
